Music in class

09/07/2022

Music has long been an integral part of our life. It helps us relax after a hard day at work, get in the mood for training or create a romantic atmosphere.

But is there a place for music in school? Of course for proper development students have music lessons, but what about other subjects? Can we use music in other classrooms too?

Nowadays, more teachers of mathematics, physics, computer science, and other subjects have begun to play music during independent or group work.

Proponents of this approach believe that music helps to:

  • Relax the mind
  • Increase concentration
  • Lessen distractions
  • Improve focus

We all remember experiments conducted on plants when different types of music were played to plants, and some flourished while others wilted.

Of course, the plants that grew strong and healthy listened to classical music. But would our teenagers want to hear Mozart or Bach in class when everyone is obsessed with "Gucci Gang", "Peaches," and other songs?

Of course, not all adults can enjoy classical music, either. But it doesn't mean that we shouldn't use music in class. We just need to find a compromise. A good alternative to classics is lo-fi relaxing music. Fortunately, we live in the era of digital technology, and there's no lack of various streaming platforms like YouTube, Spotify and others.
